The only good bug is a dead bug?
Watching Starship Troopers on cable tonight, since it was sci-fi and just happened to be on. Sometimes, that's all it takes to get me to tune it.

But tonight, it just gave me the chills. There's a segment where Buenos Aires gets destroyed by a mass driven asteroid sent by the aliens. They show very graphic scenes of buildings reduced to rubble with people mangled under the debris. And death tolls, and reactions from people ("The only good bug is a dead bug!"), and the Countdown to Victory of the military reaction.

Maybe I'm seeing too much into it, but... Deja vu.

You're not. You're getting the point of it. A lot of people forget when watching it, it's not a cool action sci-fi story, it's really a social commentary.

Much like the old news segments on B5.

Well, I do get the general point, but just how close it has a chance to match what's going on now... wow...

i've been bugging out on the choise of reruns lately for star trek, i swear the recent rerun with sisko & gul-dukat stranded on a planet was bashing me over the head with a message i was hoping was intentional

i love that movie. i refused to watch it for a while...then finally gave in. i thought it was going to be alot cheezier and feh than it was.
and yes..it is creepy, thinking of the mentality it takes to want to destroy a whole race.
*sighs*
