Current mood: nostalgic
Current music:Parade - Garbage

Request for music suggestions... anyone? :)
Okay, so I've been listening to the new Garbage album incessantly now, and I've got to stop or else I'll ruin it for myself. But I'm in the mood for some particular music, but I can't seem to remember who's done it...

If you haven't heard it, listen to Garbage - Parade. To me, it sounds a lot like late 80's to mid 90's bittersweet happy "alternative" girl band music. Maybe a little Curve, a little Lush, a little... who? Maybe some P.J.Harvey?

For some reason, I'm drawing a blank, but I need more. :) Any suggestions?

I dunno. I'm currently going through a Hair Band phase, myself. Trying to convince people I know to let me rip their cds into mp3 files for my own use *insert evil laugh here*

The one I'm listening to has all the great Aquanet addicts: Def Leppard, Vixen, Slaughter, Trixter, Great White, Poison, Warrant, and more.

Other than that, I'm not sure.

How about Suzanne Vega, early Tori Amos, Lisa Gerrard, Bjork, Deathgirl.com, Mojave3, Patti Smith, Creatures and the Cranes just to name a few....

Hmm... some of those seem close. Leaning a lil more toward my gothy music collection though. All good stuff though! Mmm... Suzanne Vega. I loved 99.9 Fahrenheit Degrees

Looking for more guitar-ish-driven pop-like yet not-quite-mainstream stuff I used to hear on 88.7 back in high school and early college. Hmm.. maybe Veruca Salt...

OK, blonde redhead too. who are you? i like your taste in music mucho ;)

hmm. back on topic. there's some blonde redhead stuff available on epitonic.com free to download. what about throwing muses? and i love the popguns -- bittersweet britpop, beautiful voices -- try one on for size -- http://home.earthlink.net/~brandiberry/random/thepopguns-landslide.mp3

or some old rose chronicles stuff for a more ethereal shoegazey aria feel? algerianish pop music is fun, too -- try looking for stuff on mp3.com by cheb kaledi or cheb mami (cheb anybody, if i understand the term correctly)...

Cranes! Definitely listen to some Cranes. If you're not already familiar with Ali Shaw's voice, you should be.

I of course can't remember their name, but what about that band that did "Naked Eye"?

And damn you and a few other people, I've been listening to nothing but Poe for the past few days.

i'm absorbed in another radio stream i'm workin on (software torture testing with a twist of creative outlet, yay)... right now i'm chomping at the bit for the new Savoy album to show up in the mail, as for bands here, my latest "new" discovery is the dandy warhols -- i couldn't believe what i was hearing at first.. them and Savoy are like, if i could genetically engineer a band, they're it. i liked the vocals for the garbage tunes i've heard in the past, checking out some of the new stuff (you'd think 60gb would be enough but nooo... having to conserve space agin..)

I remember those days....but for some reason, my parents never heard those arguments, I guess. They didn't have any problems with me listening to my brother's ACDC albums at 6 or 7.

Yes! My brother listened to them too. My mom would just say "don't play it so loud".
He was a KISS band member for Halloween in 1977. I have photographic evidence. heh
I'm glad you remember...then I don't feel so old.

My brother was too young in '77 to dress up as a Kiss member for anything, but I have an ex-boyfriend that had the hair and toungue of Gene Simmons....in makeup, you couldn't tell the difference. It was really frightening.

For the Kiss fans: Imagine Paul Stanley as the Phantom of the Opera....it was a scary, scary performance. Highly entertaing, though, and Gene was in the audiance the night we saw it.

He had the tongue? hmm... ;)
My favorite AC/DC memory of my youth is that my DAD (business man mensa-member republican)had an AC/DC tape when I was about 6. We listened to it all the time. I would giggle during "She's got big balls, he's got big balls...but we've got the biggest balls of them all!"
And he'd tell me "balls" meant parties. Like, what Cinderella attended.

also, don't leave out the boys for the girls -- go for more hooligan bands -- stone roses, happy mondays, stuff like that, to match up with kill your television.

I never pass up an opportunity to plug Dido, Pink, and Tori. Of course, they probably aren't what you're looking for, but those are the only names that go through my CD player with any regularity!!

But don't take the word of an avowed Pop-queen.

*sigh* Only a man. :)

The main chickies that make it through my playlist on a regular basis are Joan Osborne, Sionead Lohan, Paula Cole (her first album), April March, Stella Soliel (and Sister Soliel), and Tara MacLean. There are a couple of poppy ones in there....
